While Ranveer Singh celebrates the historic, record-shattering success of his latest blockbuster Dhurandhar, the actor has found himself in a serious legal entanglement in Karnataka. On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, an FIR was officially registered against him in Bengaluru for allegedly insulting religious sentiments.

The Controversy: “Sacred Tradition vs. Mimicry”

The issue dates back to the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 28, 2025.

  • The Act: Ranveer, in an attempt to praise Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1, mimicked the iconic Chaundi (Chamundi) Daiva sequence on stage.
  • The Remarks: The FIR alleges that Ranveer referred to the revered deity as a “female ghost” and performed the ritualistic expressions in a “crude and comical” manner.
  • Legal Charges: The case was filed under Sections 196, 299, and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with promoting enmity between groups and outraging religious feelings.

Rishab Shetty’s Reaction

The creator of Kantara, Rishab Shetty, expressed his deep discomfort over the act:

“The Daiva element is sensitive and sacred. Wherever I go, I request people not to perform it on stage or mock it. It is emotionally and deeply connected to us.”

Dhurandhar: The Box Office Giant

Despite the legal heat, Ranveer’s professional graph has hit an all-time high. Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, has rewritten the history books.
