Record-Breaking KPop Demon Hunters Sequel In The Works

The animated film KPop Demon Hunters has officially become Netflix’s most-watched English-language movie of all time, amassing a record 236 million views. The film’s success has sparked early talks for a highly anticipated sequel.

August 27, 2025: The cartoon smash KPop Demon Hunters is now officially part of streaming history. It is the most-watched English-language movie on Netflix ever. Since its launch on June 20, the musical fantasy directed by Maggie Kang has gotten an incredible 236 million views, breaking the record set by Red Notice.

The movie has done well in more than just the streaming realm. On August 23 and 24, a special sing-along version of the movie was shown in theaters in the U.S. and other countries for a short time. It shockingly launched at No. 1 at the box office, showing how big of an impact the movie had on culture and how loyal its fans are.

The K-pop girl quartet Huntr/x—Rumi (Arden Cho), Mira (May Hong), and Zoey (Ji-young Yoo)—use their musical skills to hunt demons in stealth. The three of them have to keep their fans safe from their most supernatural enemy, Lee Byung-hun, who has started a rival boy band to steal souls.

Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, the directors of the movie, have already said they want to continue the story. Variety says that Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation are already talking about making a sequel. “We’ve set up so much possible backstory,” Kang told the paper. “There are still a lot of things that need to be answered and looked into. We had to hold back since there is only so much room in an 85-minute movie.

KPop Demon Hunters has broken records for the most viewers and shown the world how powerful animation and K-pop culture can be. It has a star-studded voice cast that includes Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Yunjin Kim.
