March 18, 2025: Veteran Bollywood actor Ranjeet, widely known for his negative roles in classic Hindi films, recently opened up about an abandoned film project involving legendary actress Rekha. In a candid interview with Vickey Lalwani, Ranjeet shared how Rekha’s “tantrums” and unprofessional behavior led him to ask for his signing amount back, ultimately shelving the project.

The Signing Amount Discrepancy

At a time when Ranjeet was exploring filmmaking, he approached Rekha with a professional agreement, offering her a fee she quoted. However, he later discovered that another producer had signed her for ₹5 lakh less than what she had demanded from him. This revelation raised concerns about Rekha’s approach to deals.

“I told Rekha, ‘You are my friend, but if I am signing you, I want you to quote a price, and I will pay you.’ She did. Later, I found out that another producer had paid her ₹5 lakh less than what she quoted to me,” Ranjeet recalled.

Rekha’s Reluctance and Exclusive Meetings

Another issue that irked Ranjeet was Rekha’s unwillingness to meet producers directly. He alleged that filmmakers would wait outside her house for hours, only to be turned away without a meeting.

“I knew she would make producers wait for hours and still not meet them. When I was narrating my story to her, my entire team was outside, but she refused to let them in. Only Farzana [Rekha’s secretary] would take messages and relay them back to her,” he shared.

Clash Over Shooting Schedules

Ranjeet’s vision for the film also clashed with Rekha’s working style. While he wanted to shoot key sequences in the evenings, Rekha insisted on completing her work during the day and being free by night.

“She suggested we do a ‘day for night’ shoot. But I told her that I was making this film for myself, not her. I could sense that soon, she would treat me like the other producers, so before it reached that point, I politely asked her to return my signing amount,” he added.

The End of Their Film Collaboration

Despite the professional differences, Ranjeet maintains that the discussion ended on a friendly note. However, he did not hold back from admitting that Rekha’s demands made it impossible to work with her.

“Rekha had a lot of tantrums,” he concluded.

Ranjeet, best known for his villainous roles in films like Parchhaiyan, Bhai Ho To Aisa, Mr. Romeo, Farebi, and many others, has worked with Rekha in multiple films, including Yaarana, Bulandi, Suhaag, Nagin, Dharmatma, and Khoon Pasina.
