"Releasing in India.." : Fawad Khan's 'The Legend of Maula Jatt' Set To Make History
The excitement surrounding the release of The Legend of Maula Jatt in Indian theaters is palpable, especially considering it’s the first Pakistani film to hit Indian screens in over a decade.
The movie, which premiered in 2022, stars popular Pakistani actors Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, and is directed by Bilal Lashari.
In a recent announcement, Lashari shared the news on his Instagram, highlighting that the film will be released in India, particularly in Punjab, on October 2nd.
He expressed his enthusiasm, noting that the film has maintained full house screenings in Pakistan even two years post-release.
Mahira Khan also took to her social media, sharing the film’s poster and expressing her excitement with a simple “let’s go.”
The Legend of Maula Jatt is a modern retelling of the classic Pakistani film Maula Jatt and centers on the intense rivalry between Noori Natt, portrayed by Hamza Ali Abbasi, and the titular character Maula Jatt, played by Fawad Khan. This release comes at a significant time, as there has been a long-standing ban on Pakistani artists performing in India following the Uri terror attack in 2016.
Notably, in November 2023, the Indian Supreme Court dismissed a plea to impose a complete ban on Pakistani artists, marking a potential shift in cultural exchange between the two nations. Both Fawad and Mahira have previously made their mark in Bollywood, with Fawad featured in films like Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Khoobsurat, while Mahira debuted opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Raees.
The anticipation from fans is high, as many are eager to see a Pakistani film on the big screen after such a long hiatus.
