Retro had a stellar start with ₹19.25 crore on its release day, May 1. The film managed a respectable weekend run, accumulating ₹43.48 crore in its first four days. However, Monday’s earnings were considerably lower, pushing its total domestic gross to ₹46.53 crore by the end of Day 5.
Occupancy figures also dropped, with Tamil occupancy at 22.54% and Telugu occupancy at 13.36% on May 5.

Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Retro marks the filmmaker’s first collaboration with Suriya, who plays a gangster. The film features Pooja Hegde in the lead role, alongside Jayaram, Joju George, Prakash Raj, Nassar, and a cameo by Shriya Saran. It is jointly produced by 2D Entertainment and Stone Bench Films.
