Review: Gyaarah Gyaarah: A Gripping Hindi Fantasy Thriller That Transcends Time

Gyaarah Gyaarah, a Hindi fantasy thriller series, was recently released on Zee5. The series is an adaptation of the popular Korean drama Signal. Produced by Sikhya Entertainment and Dharma Productions.

Gyaarah Gyaarah is directed by Umesh Bist and features a stellar cast:

Raghav Juyal as Yug Arya
Kritika Kamra as Vamika Rawat
Dhairya Karwa as Shaurya Anthwal
Gautami Kapoor as Sanjana Tiwari
Harsh Chhaya as Sameer Bhatiya

The plot centers around three police officers separated by time as they investigate a series of cold cases. Their quest to find the culprits is complicated by the pervasive corruption and idleness within the police department. The narrative unfolds across three different time periods—1990, 2001, and 2016—intertwining storylines that blend mysticism, science, and mystery.

Set in Uttarakhand, the story follows Yug Arya, a police inspector in 2016, who receives mysterious transmissions from Shaurya Anthwal dating back to 1990, 1998, and 2001 through an old walkie-talkie. These different timelines connect for only a minute, precisely at 11:11 PM. Together, Yug and Shaurya work to solve cases in their respective timelines.

The series boasts an almost perfect screenplay, a gripping storyline, sublime characterizations, and brilliant acting. It’s a must-watch cliffhanger, akin to a book you can’t put down. The editing is remarkable, with the series meticulously shot to replicate events across the different timelines. The connections between the timelines are apparent and unmissable.

Unlike most time travel stories that often feel unbelievable or senseless, Gyaarah Gyaarah stands out by making the concept feel plausible and engaging.

Each episode ends on a high note, with the season finale serving as the cherry on top.

Raghav Juyal delivers a brilliant performance as Yug Arya, effectively portraying confusion, ego, and stubbornness.

Kritika Kamra reaches new heights with her acting in the season finale, delivering spot-on expressions.

Dhairya Karwa is noteworthy as a police inspector, deserving full marks for his performance.

Kudos to the director for pulling it all together.
