
Rihanna Voices Smurfette In 'Smurfs' Movie, Trailer Released
February 7, 2025: Rihanna, the nine-time Grammy-winning singer-actress, has taken on a new role in the upcoming Smurfs movie, where she voices the lead character, Smurfette. The trailer for the musical animated film was released on Thursday, sparking excitement among fans as they got a sneak peek into the whimsical world of the Smurfs.
Produced by Paramount Pictures, the animated film is based on the beloved characters and works of Peyo, with a screenplay by Pam Brady and direction by Chris Miller. The movie is set to be released in theaters on July 18, 2025.
In the trailer, Rihanna introduces her character, Smurfette, saying, “I’m Rihanna and I play Smurfette in the new Smurfs movie, and I can’t wait for you all to see it this summer.” The film’s plot centers around a rescue mission led by Smurfette, as she and the Smurfs must save Papa Smurf (voiced by John Goodman) after he is mysteriously kidnapped by the evil wizards Razamel and Gargamel. The Smurfs spring into action when a UFO abducts Papa Smurf, setting off a thrilling journey into the human world.
Rihanna’s Smurfette leads the charge as the group ventures into the unknown to rescue their beloved leader, facing numerous challenges along the way.
Alongside Rihanna, the voice cast features an impressive ensemble, including James Corden, Nick Offerman, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Hannah Waddingham, Alex Winter, Maya Erskine, Billie Lourd, Xolo Mariduena, Kurt Russell, and John Goodman.
The movie is produced by Jay Brown, Ty Ty Smith, Robyn Rihanna Fenty (Rihanna’s real name), and Ryan Harris, with the production team promising a fun and musical adventure for all ages.
In addition to her Smurfs role, Rihanna has also reignited fan excitement for her music career. The singer was recently spotted in a New York City recording studio, fueling rumors of her long-awaited ninth studio album, possibly titled R9.
