May 14, 2025 : The upcoming Smurfs reboot continues to build excitement, with the makers dropping a brand-new trailer on Wednesday featuring Rihanna’s latest track, Friend of Mine. The upbeat song injects a fresh and energetic tone into the film, capturing the spirit of the Smurfs’ new journey.

As reported by Variety, the film features an all-star voice cast with Rihanna voicing Smurfette, John Goodman as Papa Smurf, and appearances by James Corden, Nick Offerman, JP Karliak, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Hannah Waddingham, Alex Winter, Maya Erskine, Billie Lourd, Xolo Mariduena, and Kurt Russell.

Directed by Chris Miller, known for Shrek the Third and Puss in Boots, the new Smurfs film follows Smurfette as she steps into a leadership role to guide her fellow Smurfs after Papa Smurf is mysteriously kidnapped by sinister wizards.

The film is scheduled to hit theatres on July 18 and will be available in both English and Hindi.

Created by Belgian cartoonist Peyo, the Smurfs have enjoyed global popularity through multiple feature films, including Sony’s 2011 live-action adaptation The Smurfs, which was followed by a sequel in 2013 and Smurfs: The Lost Village in 2017. The franchise transitioned to Paramount and Nickelodeon in 2022.
