Riley Keough Joins Albert Serra’s English-Language Debut ‘Out of This World’ Amid Rising International Film Projects

May 16, 2025: Actress Riley Keough, known for her role in The Good Doctor, has joined the cast of Out of This World, the highly anticipated English-language directorial debut of acclaimed Spanish filmmaker Albert Serra, according to Variety.

Serra, celebrated for his critically lauded film Pacifiction, which competed at the Cannes Film Festival, will now turn his focus to a politically charged drama. Out of This World follows an American delegation traveling to Russia during the ongoing Ukraine conflict, as they attempt to resolve a complex economic dispute. The film explores the deep-rooted geopolitical rivalry between the U.S. and Russia, and will be primarily shot in English, with portions in Russian to add authenticity.

Keough will star alongside Oscar winner F. Murray Abraham and Liza Yankovskaia, as per Variety. Though plot specifics and character details remain under wraps, the project marks a significant milestone in Serra’s career as he transitions into English-language cinema.

Initially, actress Kristen Stewart was attached to the project, according to earlier reports.

In addition to this role, Riley Keough is set to appear in Butterfly Jam, the English-language debut of Cannes award-winning director Kantemir Balagov, Deadline reports.

Set in New Jersey’s Circassian community, Butterfly Jam follows a teenager torn between his ambitions as a professional wrestler and the turbulent legacy of his father, who runs a struggling diner. When one of his father’s reckless schemes backfires, the young protagonist is forced to confront harsh realities and grow up sooner than expected.

As Keough continues to attach herself to bold and diverse international projects, her presence in films by auteurs like Serra and Balagov signals her deepening role in global cinema.
