May 19, 2025: The 2025 Cannes Film Festival has officially crowned its first major acquisition, and it’s none other than Die My Love, a harrowing psychological drama starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson. Directed by Lynne Ramsay, the film premiered to a thunderous six-minute standing ovation on Saturday night, signaling its early status as a formidable awards contender.
Sources tell Variety that a deal valued at approximately $20 million is nearing finalization, covering U.S. rights and several key international territories. The high-profile sale marks the festival’s first big-ticket distribution deal and positions Die My Love as one of the hottest titles on the Croisette this year.
Based on Ariana Harwicz’s critically acclaimed 2017 novel of the same name, Die My Love explores the psychologically fraught terrain of postpartum depression. Set in rural America, the film follows a woman’s slow descent into emotional chaos, played with searing intensity by Lawrence. Robert Pattinson co-stars as her emotionally distant husband, whose inability to connect only deepens her isolation.
“This was one of the hardest roles I’ve ever done,” Lawrence said in a post-screening Q&A. “As a mother, it was really hard to separate what I would do as opposed to what she would do. And it was just heartbreaking. I had just had my firstborn, and there’s not really anything like postpartum. It’s extremely isolating, which is so interesting.”
The film marks director Lynne Ramsay’s highly anticipated return to Cannes following her 2017 success with You Were Never Really Here, which earned Best Screenplay and starred Joaquin Phoenix.
