Robert Pattinson Recalls Challenges Post-Pandemic, Says He Was Almost "Turned Off" Of Acting For Two Years
January 23, 2025: Robert Pattinson recently opened up about his concerns for the future of cinema, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing strikes in the entertainment industry. He shared that there was a widespread belief that cinema was “dying” during this period, and the sentiment felt convincing enough to make him genuinely worry about the industry’s future. He admitted that the constant talk about the decline of cinema “actually started to get a little worrying.”
Despite the challenges, Pattinson has remained hopeful about the direction of cinema, particularly in terms of recent releases. He highlighted films like the Norwegian movie Armand and his friend Brady Corbet’s film The Brutalist as examples of compelling work in cinema. Pattinson also expressed optimism for his upcoming sci-fi film Mickey 17, noting that it might be released during a “period of enthusiasm for cinema.”
Reflecting on his career, Pattinson shared that when he first began acting—starting with his role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in 2005—he never expected to still be in the industry two decades later. He even mentioned that after completing Matt Reeves’ DC Comics trilogy, he “could genuinely be retiring” from acting, something he hadn’t anticipated when he first started out. It’s clear that while Pattinson is excited for his future projects, he’s also mindful of how the landscape of cinema continues to evolve.
