February 16, 2025: At the 2025 Berlin Film Festival, the cast and director of the highly anticipated sci-fi film Mickey 17 made a grand entrance for its German premiere. Among the attendees were actor Robert Pattinson, acclaimed director Bong Joon-Ho, and fellow cast members Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. Pattinson, who plays the lead role in the film, expressed his admiration for Bong Joon-Ho, calling him a “master” and describing the experience of working with the Oscar-winning filmmaker as “incredible.”
In a press conference during the festival, Pattinson, who plays a character called Mickey—an “expendable” worker sent on dangerous missions—referred to Bong Joon-Ho as a “Mount Rushmore director” and highlighted the privilege of collaborating with him. Bong, known for his outstanding work on Parasite (2019), discussed his passion for filmmaking and his aspiration to direct across all genres, despite his admitted fear of musicals.
Mickey 17, adapted from Edward Ashton’s 2022 sci-fi novel Mickey 7, centers on a man living an expendable life, repeatedly sent on hazardous missions where he is automatically regenerated if he dies. Pattinson’s character is joined by a talented ensemble cast, including Ackie, Yeun, Collette, and Ruffalo. Collette shared that she agreed to the project without even reading the script, impressed by the allure of the director and the material.
The film will be released in Korea on February 28 and will hit theaters in the U.S. on March 7, distributed by Warner Bros.
Aside from Mickey 17, Pattinson also shared updates about The Batman Part II, which is set to begin shooting in late 2025. While he couldn’t reveal specific plot details, he assured fans that it would be “cool” and confirmed the delayed release date of October 1, 2027. Pattinson mentioned that the pandemic had made the time feel longer and that everything seemed to have slowed down due to COVID-19, adding to the film’s production timeline.
