Rohit Shetty Addresses Budget Constraints in making Female Action Lead movies

New Delhi: In a recent interview, renowned filmmaker Rohit Shetty discussed the changing landscape of action heroes in Bollywood, particularly focusing on the emergence of female action heroes.

Shetty, who has introduced actresses like Shilpa Shetty and Deepika Padukone in action roles, shed light on the challenges and opportunities in the industry.

According to Shetty, the shift towards having more female action heroes is due to the increased budgets and scale of films. He emphasized that Bollywood now has the resources to create action-packed films with female leads, and there are talented actresses capable of delivering impactful action sequences. Shetty mentioned that the budget constraint is a significant factor, and the industry needs to invest in female-oriented scripts with the same scale and budget as those featuring male stars.

Shetty acknowledged the struggle faced by filmmakers in meeting audience expectations accustomed to high production scale. He highlighted financial challenges, noting that despite a business of Rs 700 crores, the actual share for producers comes down to around Rs 275 to 300 crores after accounting for taxes and other expenses.

The director emphasized the importance of scale in filmmaking, stating that the audience is now accustomed to a certain level of production quality. Shetty praised the South Indian film industry for taking risks and producing big-budget films like ‘KGF’ and ‘Kantara,’ despite challenges and tight budgets.

Rohit Shetty’s upcoming film, ‘Singham Again,’ featuring Deepika Padukone as a cop, is set to release on Independence Day. Shetty’s insights provide a glimpse into the evolving landscape of Bollywood, where female action heroes are gaining prominence with the support of increased budgets and audience acceptance.
