‘Rust’ Trailer Unveiled: Alec Baldwin’s Western Film Set For May Release

March 27, 2025: The much-anticipated Western film Rust has finally released its first trailer, starring Alec Baldwin as Harland Rust, a seasoned outlaw navigating through a deadly and unforgiving 1880s Kansas. The film follows Rust as he emerges from hiding to rescue his nephew, Lucas Hollister, portrayed by Patrick Scott McDermott, who faces the death penalty for an accidental killing.

The plot intensifies as Rust and his nephew become fugitives on the run from a relentless bounty hunter, Fenton ‘Preacher’ Lang, played by Travis Fimmel. The trailer begins with a haunting voiceover, setting the tone for a gripping narrative on survival and redemption: “The only order that exists in this world is the order we impose. If a man loses sight of that, he’s got nothin.”

However, the film’s production is shadowed by its tragic on-set history. In October 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot by a live round discharged from Baldwin’s gun during filming, resulting in a series of legal proceedings. Baldwin was later acquitted of manslaughter, but the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, was convicted. Production on Rust was halted for over a year before resuming in Montana in 2023.

Despite its tragic backstory, Rust premiered quietly at the Camerimage Film Festival in Poland and is slated for a limited theatrical release on May 2, 2025, followed by VOD availability. The film, produced by Falling Forward Films, promises to be a gritty exploration of life on the edge, with Baldwin’s performance leading the way in this intense Western drama.
