January 4, 2025: The 82nd Golden Globe Awards are approaching, but three major stars—Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Blake Lively—are reportedly expected to miss the event. The reasons behind their absence appear to be related to their busy schedules and personal matters.
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the stars of the box office smash “Deadpool & Wolverine”, are both tied up with ongoing projects. Reynolds, in particular, is deep into work on the highly anticipated Deadpool 3, which is in production, and Jackman is focusing on his commitments, including Broadway’s “The Music Man”.
Blake Lively, wife of Reynolds, is also expected to skip the Golden Globes. This comes despite her significant contribution to the Netflix romantic drama “It Ends With Us”, which grossed USD 351 million worldwide earlier this year. Lively also had a cameo in the Deadpool & Wolverine film. However, the ongoing sexual harassment lawsuit she has filed against her co-star Justin Baldoni and his team over alleged mistreatment during the making of “It Ends With Us” is likely contributing to her decision to avoid the spotlight at the awards show. The legal situation has gained significant media attention, and Lively is pursuing a lawsuit in federal court in New York.
In light of this, comedian Nikki Glaser, who will host the Golden Globes this year, has confirmed she will not make any jokes related to the Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni lawsuit during the broadcast. She noted that even a mention of the controversy could be seen as taking sides, adding, “I don’t want to give his name any—I’m mad I even know his name, to be honest with you, so I don’t need to say it anymore.”
Meanwhile, the 2024 Golden Globe nominations see Netflix leading the pack, with both TV and film content earning top nods, followed by strong representation from A24 and HBO. Notably, Viola Davis will be honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award, a prestigious career achievement honor. Davis, who has previously won a Golden Globe and Academy Award for her performance in “Fences” (2016), is one of Hollywood’s most decorated actresses.
Additionally, India is in the mix for a Golden Globe this year, as Payal Kapadia‘s “All We Imagine As Light” has earned two significant nominations at the 82nd Annual Golden Globes, marking a notable achievement for Indian cinema on the global stage.
As the Golden Globe Awards draw near, it will be interesting to see how the ceremony unfolds amid all these developments and controversies.
