Sabyasachi Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Chaos of Rani Mukerji’s Secret Wedding to Aditya Chopra

More than a decade after Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra tied the knot in an ultra-private wedding in Italy, new details about the ceremony have finally emerged — courtesy of celebrity designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

In a recent chat on the YouTube channel Fashionably Pernia, Sabyasachi revealed that the 2014 wedding — which remains photo-less to this day — was one of the most fun yet chaotic experiences of his career.

“You know who was fun to work with? Rani Mukerji,” Sabyasachi shared. “She never released the photos. But it was a mad wedding — just her, Adi (Aditya Chopra), Karan (Johar), and me. She was so chilled out.”

The designer recalled being given just a week to create her bridal lehenga. “She came over for lunch and said she’s getting married. I asked her how much time I had and she said, ‘One week.’ So I had to throw something together in that time,” he said with a smile, adding that it’s always a joy to work with people who are truly enjoying their special day.

Rani and Aditya’s Private Romance
Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra got married on April 21, 2014, in an intimate ceremony in Italy after years of speculation. The couple has kept their relationship away from the public eye, with no official photos from the wedding ever released. They welcomed their daughter Adira in 2015.

In a recent interview with Film Companion, Rani shared a rare glimpse into their relationship, saying the couple still enjoys watching movies together every Friday at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai. “It’s lovely to hold hands… to stand in line, get your popcorn or pizza, and watch a film. It’s such a good experience,” she said.

Rani is gearing up to return as fearless cop Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 3, slated for release on February 27, 2026.
