Sabyasachi Schools Clueless Met Gala Hosts on Shah Rukh Khan's Global Stardom-Call Him "The Most...."
May 6, 2025: Sabyasachi Steps In to Explain Shah Rukh Khan’s Global Fame to Met Gala Hosts
Shah Rukh Khan’s long-awaited Met Gala debut may have wowed fans across the globe, but not everyone in the room seemed to understand the magnitude of his stardom. When the Bollywood superstar arrived in New York on Monday night (Tuesday morning IST), crowds erupted outside his hotel—but on the red carpet, Met Gala hosts Teyana Taylor and Ego Nwodim appeared less familiar with the icon they were interviewing.
In a Vogue livestream clip, the two hosts introduced Shah Rukh Khan as the “first male Bollywood star” to attend the Met Gala and asked him about “making history.” The actor, ever humble, responded that he was nervous as he rarely attends red carpet events and was doing it mainly for his children.
But as the conversation took a slightly awkward turn—with questions about whether the blue carpet made him feel more comfortable—celebrity designer Sabyasachi Mukherji jumped in to provide much-needed context.
“Just to give a little context, Shah Rukh Khan is probably the most famous man in the world and his fan following is legendary. We nearly had a stampede outside the hotel when he came out,” Sabyasachi said, instantly resetting the tone.
He continued, “When it’s ‘Black Dandy,’ representation is key. We wanted to represent Shah Rukh Khan as Shah Rukh Khan—and no one else.”
The comment quickly went viral, with fans praising Sabya for doing what the hosts hadn’t. “I love how Sabya made them realise what a big deal SRK is,” wrote a fan on YouTube. “His popularity outside India is insane,” echoed another.

🔸About SRK’s Met Gala Look
For the 2025 Met Gala theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” Sabyasachi styled Shah Rukh in an elongated black Tasmanian superfine wool coat, accented with monogrammed Japanese horn buttons and a classic peak collar.
The look was completed with a pleated satin kamarbandh, tailored silk trousers, and a crepe de chine shirt. The highlight? A custom Bengal Tiger Head cane, crafted in 18K gold and studded with diamonds, tourmalines, and sapphires.
“Shah Rukh Khan is a magician, superstar, and icon. Period,” Sabyasachi said of the collaboration.
🔸Why It Matters
Despite being one of the world’s most recognizable film stars, Shah Rukh Khan’s encounter with under-informed hosts highlights how Bollywood remains underappreciated in certain Western pop culture spaces. But with his charismatic presence and a strong endorsement from Sabya, SRK left a lasting impression—both on the carpet and across social media.
