The nation witnessed a deeply emotional scene on Monday as cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar broke down while paying his final respects to the legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle.

The iconic singer passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the age of 92 due to multiple organ failure at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. Accompanied by his wife, Anjali Tendulkar, Sachin was seen visibly distraught at Bhosle’s residence, Casa Grande in Lower Parel, where he was captured constantly wiping away tears while conversing with the grieving family.

The bond between the “Master Blaster” and the “Queen of Indipop” was one of deep mutual admiration and personal affection. Sachin has often cited Asha Bhosle’s music as a constant companion throughout his illustrious career, while “Asha Tai,” as she was fondly called, regarded the cricketer with maternal pride. In a poignant testament to their close ties, Bhosle’s last major public appearance was reportedly at the wedding of Sachin’s son, Arjun Tendulkar, held in Mumbai just last month.

A Heartfelt Tribute to “Asha Tai”

In the wake of her passing, Sachin took to social media to share a moving eulogy that resonated with millions of fans. Describing her not just as an icon but as a member of his own family, he wrote:

“For us, Asha Tai was family. Today, words feel too small for the loss we feel. One moment the heart falls silent, and the next, it drifts through the countless melodies she gifted all of us. It feels as though time itself has paused. Yet through her eternal songs, she will remain timeless forever. We will miss you beyond words, Asha Tai.”

The legendary singer is set to be cremated with full state honours at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park at 4:00 PM today, April 13. A massive influx of celebrities, politicians, and fans including AR Rahman and Asha Parekh have converged at her residence to bid farewell to the voice that defined over seven decades of Indian cinema.
