Makers consider recast after Deepika Padukone’s exit from Kalki 2898 AD 2
February 3, 2026: Amid reports of Deepika Padukone’s exit from the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, the makers are said to be exploring a recast for the role of SUM-80, with Sai Pallavi emerging as a strong contender. While no official confirmation has been made, a source associated with the film said the team believes Sai Pallavi would be a perfect fit, though the claims are currently being described as speculative.
An official statement on the casting is still awaited from the makers of Nag Ashwin’s ambitious sci-fi franchise, which stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan in pivotal roles. The sequel is expected to expand the film’s futuristic universe, following the massive success of the first instalment.
Deepika Padukone’s departure from the project was earlier confirmed by production house Vyjayanthi Movies, which cited the need for long-term commitment. Reports suggest the exit followed differences over remuneration and working conditions. Kalki 2898 AD, released in June 2024, went on to collect ₹1,042 crore worldwide, making its sequel one of the most anticipated films in Indian cinema.
