Saiyaara Faces Copy Allegation
Filmmaker claims Ahaan Panday film resembles his 2019 YouTube short Khwaabon
March 13, 2026: A controversy has emerged around the film Saiyaara after filmmaker Amit Jadhav alleged that its story closely resembles his 2019 YouTube short film Khwaabon. The film stars Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. In a viral Instagram video, Jadhav claimed that both stories revolve around a couple whose life changes after the woman develops memory loss and goes missing, with the male protagonist using music to find her.
Jadhav said he was contacted on Instagram by Yash Raj Films talent representatives in 2022, but the conversation never progressed further. After the release of Saiyaara, he said friends pointed out similarities between the two stories. According to him, he tried contacting the production house again and even attempted to visit their office but received no response.
The filmmaker also claimed the situation affected him deeply, saying he had been trying to expand his short film into a feature project before the new movie released. While he is a member of the Screenwriters Association, he admitted that he had not formally registered the script in 2019 because the short film was already publicly available online. Jadhav said he is mainly seeking acknowledgement or some form of credit from the makers. The film’s team, including director Mohit Suri, had not responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
