Veteran screenwriter hospitalised in Mumbai; family says he is stable

February 17, 2026: Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan has been admitted to Lilavati Hospital and is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). His eldest son, Bollywood actor Salman Khan, was seen leaving the hospital in Bandra after visiting him. Other family members, including daughter Alvira Khan Agnihotri and son-in-law Atul Agnihotri, also reached the hospital. According to reports, further details about his medical condition are awaited, though family sources have stated that he is stable but unable to speak at the moment.

A towering figure in Hindi cinema, Salim Khan is best known for his iconic screenwriting partnership with Javed Akhtar. The duo delivered several landmark films such as Sholay, Zanjeer, Haathi Mere Saathi and Mr. India, many of which are regarded as classics of Indian cinema. He celebrated his 90th birthday on November 24 last year and had recently marked his 61st wedding anniversary with his first wife, Salma Khan, in the presence of close family and friends.

Salim Khan began his film journey as an actor in the 1960s, appearing in films like Teesri Manzil and Sarhadi Lootera, sometimes credited as ‘Prince Salim’. Despite his age, he has maintained an active lifestyle, often walking from his residence at Galaxy Apartments in Bandra to the Bandstand promenade. His daily routine was also glimpsed in the docu-series Angry Young Men on Amazon Prime Video, reflecting his enduring spirit and connection to cinema.
