Film reworked, title changed after concerns over “anti-China” content
March 17, 2026: Salman Khan has reportedly reworked his upcoming film, now titled Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, after concerns were raised over its perceived “anti-China” content. Originally titled Battle of Galwan, the film is inspired by the Galwan Valley clash and is scheduled for release on August 14. Reports suggest that the actor was advised to tone down certain portions and reconsider the title amid sensitivities.
According to sources, the film has undergone significant changes, including a partial rewrite and reshoots to shift its focus from a direct conflict narrative to a more emotional and human story. Director Apoorva Lakhia clarified that the title change was not sudden, revealing that both titles had been registered earlier and the new one better reflects the film’s deeper themes of humanity and sacrifice.
The film is expected to clash at the box office with Naagzilla: Naag Lok Ka Pehla Kaand, starring Kartik Aaryan and directed by Mrighdeep Singh Lamba. Despite the controversy, Maatrubhumi aims to present a broader narrative that goes beyond the battlefield.
