SC Allows YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia to Resume ‘The Ranveer Show’ on These Conditions
March 3, 2025: In a significant relief for YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, the Supreme Court has granted permission for him to resume his popular show, The Ranveer Show, under the condition that he maintains decency and morality in his content.
Ranveer Allahbadia, who had been barred from airing new episodes due to multiple FIRs over alleged obscenity, made an emotional appeal to the Supreme Court, stating that the show was his primary source of income. Acknowledging his plea, the apex court ruled in his favor, provided that he ensures all future content adheres to moral standards suitable for viewers of all age groups.
“Subject to the petitioner furnishing an undertaking that his own shows will maintain the standards of decency and morality, the petitioner is permitted to resume The Ranveer Show,” the Supreme Court stated.
The restriction on Allahbadia stemmed from his controversial comments during the India’s Got Latent show, which led to legal action across multiple states, including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Assam. The FIRs alleged obscenity and inappropriate content, which fueled a larger debate on the boundaries of free speech in digital content creation.

While granting relief, the Supreme Court did not hold back on reprimanding Allahbadia. The bench noted that while they were not in favor of censorship, using “filthy language” in the name of humor cannot be justified.
“We have some excellent comedians in Bollywood with real creativity in humor. Freedom of speech has its limitations, and obscenity is not talent,” the bench observed.
The SC also warned Allahbadia against commenting on ongoing legal proceedings. The court took issue with reports of one of his associates discussing the case in Canada, terming such actions as “over-smart.”

The controversy erupted when Allahbadia made an inappropriate remark during a talent show, which quickly went viral, leading to widespread backlash. The remark, perceived as highly offensive, resulted in multiple legal complaints and police investigations.
Following the uproar, Allahbadia issued a public apology, calling his comments “insensitive and disrespectful.” He also revealed receiving death threats and shared concerns about the safety of his family, including incidents of people invading his mother’s clinic.
With the SC’s conditional approval, The Ranveer Show is set to return, albeit under close scrutiny. Allahbadia will now have to ensure his content aligns with legal and ethical broadcasting norms to avoid further legal entanglements.
This ruling sets a crucial precedent for digital content creators, reinforcing the fine line between free speech and responsible content creation in India’s growing online media landscape.
