Scarlett Johansson and Harris Dickinson to Make Directorial Debuts at Cannes 2024
Washington [US], April 11: Two of Hollywood’s brightest stars are stepping into new creative roles at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, as Scarlett Johansson and Harris Dickinson make their highly anticipated directorial debuts in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section of this year’s prestigious event.
The announcement was made at a press conference in Paris on Thursday by Cannes delegate general Thierry Frémaux and president Iris Knobloch, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Known globally for her roles in Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’ and acclaimed dramas, Scarlett Johansson will present ‘Eleanor the Great’, a deeply human tale centered around an unexpected friendship between a 90-year-old Florida woman and a 19-year-old New Yorker. The cast includes June Squibb, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jessica Hecht, and Erin Kellyman.
Harris Dickinson, known for performances in ‘Triangle of Sadness’ and ‘Beach Rats’, makes his directorial debut with ‘Urchin’, a gritty character study about a drifter navigating the streets of London. Frank Dillane plays the lead role in what promises to be a raw and emotionally compelling feature.
Both films will be featured in ‘Un Certain Regard’, a section known for elevating bold new voices and visionary storytellers in global cinema.
This year’s Cannes Festival lineup also includes celebrated filmmakers such as Wes Anderson, Ari Aster, and Kelly Reichardt. According to festival organizers, a record 2,909 films were submitted for consideration.
The Cannes Film Festival 2024 will be held from May 13 to May 24, drawing the global film community to the French Riviera for a celebration of cinematic excellence and discovery.
