“I Get a Lot of Pressure to Join Social Media” â Johansson Speaks Out on Digital Age Expectations
The Hollywood star opens up about resisting Instagram, AI voice concerns, and her no-photos-with-fans policy
đ Los Angeles, March 16: Scarlett Johansson may be one of Hollywoodâs biggest stars, but even she isnât immune to the pressures of social media in todayâs entertainment landscape.
In a recent InStyle cover story, the MCU alum and Jurassic World: Rebirth star revealed that film studios and her team frequently push her to join Instagramâa move she has continuously resisted.
đ Johansson explained:
“Even today, I got an email from Universal [Pictures], and theyâre like, âHey, would you consider joining Instagram in tandem with the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth?â I get a lot of pressure to join social media.â
Despite these requests, the actress remains firm in her decision:
“Is there a way I could do this and stay true to who I am? It didnât feel like I could. The work that I put out there is all based in truth. Thatâs the key ingredient. So if I was a person who really enjoyed social media, then I could totally get on the bandwagon. But Iâm not. And I think the film will do fine.â
đč Johansson on AI, Privacy, and Fan Expectations
Beyond social media, Johansson also spoke about the growing concerns over AI in Hollywood, particularly after taking legal action against OpenAI for using a voice that sounded eerily similar to hers.
â ïž She warned:
“If that can happen to me, how are we going to protect ourselves from this? Thereâs no boundary here; weâre setting ourselves up to be taken advantage of.â
She also addressed her strict no-photos-with-fans policy, explaining that while she appreciates her supporters, she values her privacy:
đ âIt really offends a lot of people. It doesnât mean Iâm not appreciative, of course, that people are fans or happy to see me. But I always say to people, âIâm not working.â [And that means] I donât want to be identified as being in this time and place with you. Iâm doing my own thing.â
đč About âJurassic World: Rebirthâ
Johansson is set to headline the next chapter in the Jurassic Park franchise, alongside Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali. The film, set five years after Jurassic World: Dominion (2022), follows a team of scientists attempting to acquire genetic samples from the three largest dinosaursâon land, in the sea, and in the air.
đŠ The blockbuster is slated for release on July 2, 2025.
Despite her refusal to embrace social media for promotion, Johansson remains confident in the filmâs success.
đą Is social media truly essential for stars, or can their work speak for itself?
