Scarlett Johansson Sets New Record on SNL with Seventh Hosting Gig, Surpassing Tina Fey and Drew Barrymore

May 18, 2025: Scarlett Johansson made Saturday Night Live history on May 17 by becoming the most frequent female host in the iconic show’s history. Hosting the season finale of SNL’s milestone 50th season, Johansson marked her seventh time at the helm, surpassing previous record-holders Tina Fey and Drew Barrymore, who each hosted six times.

The 40-year-old actress first hosted the late-night sketch show in January 2006, and returned in April 2007, November 2010, May 2015, March 2017, and December 2019. She has also appeared in numerous cameos over the years. Her latest appearance as host cements her legacy as a core figure in SNL’s storied history.

During her opening monologue, Johansson delivered a musical parody of Billy Joel’s “Piano Man,” joined by cast members Bowen Yang, Sarah Sherman, Mikey Day, and Chloe Fineman. She featured in multiple sketches throughout the night, including playing a local news anchor and moderating a fictional TV show cast interview.

Bad Bunny served as the musical guest for the finale, performing two tracks from his album Debí Tirar Más Fotos (I Should Have Taken More Photos) — “Nuevayol” and “Perfumito Nuevo,” the latter alongside RaiNao.

SNL’s 50th season, which began in September 2024, was packed with star power. Hosts included Jean Smart, Ariana Grande, Michael Keaton, Chris Rock, John Mulaney, Paul Mescal, Jack Black, Jon Hamm, Martin Short, and more. Musical performances featured big names like Coldplay, Stevie Nicks, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Morgan Wallen, and Lizzo. Several stars, including Charli XCX, Timothée Chalamet, and Lady Gaga, took on the rare dual role of host and musical guest.

Saturday Night Live will return later this year on NBC, continuing its legacy as one of television’s most enduring and influential comedy platforms. A special edition magazine celebrating the show’s 50th anniversary is currently available.
