Scarlett Johansson To Join The Batman Sequel?

The former MCU Black Widow is reportedly in final talks for a major, yet-to-be-revealed role in Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated DC sequel opposite Robert Pattinson.

December 4, 2025: In a major cross-universe jump, former Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) star Scarlett Johansson is reportedly in final negotiations to join the cast of the highly anticipated DC sequel, The Batman Part II.

The potential casting, confirmed by industry sources, would place the actress opposite Robert Pattinson, who is set to reprise his role as the Caped Crusader in the film being written and directed by Matt Reeves.

Role Remains a Mystery

While the deal is nearing finalization, the identity of Johansson’s character remains a closely guarded secret. This has sparked intense speculation among fans, with potential roles ranging from a new love interest to an iconic villain.

  • Fan Speculations: Names like Poison Ivy (given the character’s history as a prominent red-haired figure), reporter Vicki Vale, or even the vigilante Andrea Beaumont (The Phantasm) have been frequently mentioned, though Warner Bros. and DC Studios have provided no official confirmation.
  • Catwoman’s Absence: Reports suggest that Zoë Kravitz’s character, Selina Kyle/Catwoman, is not expected to return for the upcoming sequel, potentially clearing the way for a new female lead.

A Busy Franchise Schedule

Should the deal close, Johansson will add another major franchise to her increasingly busy schedule. She recently starred in the blockbuster Jurassic World: Rebirth and signed on last week for a role in the new Exorcist movie, which she is expected to film first.

The Batman Part II, which grossed $772 million worldwide with its first installment, is slated to begin production next spring for an estimated theatrical release date of October 1, 2027.

Director Matt Reeves has kept the plot details under extreme security, telling Variety at the Emmys, “We put [the script] into a secret pouch that literally has a lock on it with a code… everything is high security.” The director has previously teased that the sequel’s main villain will be one that “has never really been done in a movie before,” setting a high bar for the highly anticipated continuation of the gritty Gotham saga.
