October 23, 2024: Scarlett Johansson is set to produce and potentially star in the film adaptation of 'The Girl in the Lake', a mystery thriller novel by bestselling author Lauren Oliver.
Johansson will produce the film alongside Scott Stuber through Amazon MGM Studios, which acquired the rights to adapt Oliver’s upcoming adult thriller.
This project marks an exciting move for Johansson, as she's not only involved as a producer but is also in talks to play the lead role. Lauren Oliver, known for her popular young adult novels like Panic and Before I Fall, will write the script for the adaptation and serve as an executive producer.

The film will be produced by Nick Nesbitt, alongside Johansson’s production company These Pictures, and Marc Resteghini through Jack Tar Pictures. This marks Oliver’s first foray into adult mystery thrillers after her successes in the young adult genre. Her previous works have already been adapted for the screen, such as the Amazon series Panic and the 2017 film adaptation of Before I Fall.
Scarlett Johansson, a highly acclaimed actress, made her film debut in 'North' (1994) and has since earned numerous awards, including a BAFTA and a Tony Award, with multiple Oscar and Golden Globe nominations. Most recently, she starred alongside Channing Tatum in the romantic comedy-drama 'Fly Me to the Moon', directed by Greg Berlanti.
This new project adds to Johansson's already impressive body of work and her evolving role as a producer in the industry.
