Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Urges 60-Day Delay In Sex-Trafficking Trial Due To Incomplete Evidence

April 17, 2025: Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is requesting a two-month delay in his upcoming federal sex-trafficking trial, citing the prosecution’s failure to provide complete evidence for a fair trial. Combs’ legal team, led by Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, filed a letter on Wednesday requesting that the trial, which is scheduled to begin with jury selection on May 5 and opening statements on May 12, be postponed.

The defense argues that new evidence included in a recent superseding indictment requires additional time for review and preparation of a proper defense. They further claim that despite the government producing some discovery material, it has not yet provided all the necessary information, which is especially important for defending the serious charges, including a 15-year mandatory minimum sentence.

While the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York has yet to comment on the delay request, it has previously opposed any changes to the trial timeline. Judge Arun Subramanian acknowledged the defense’s concerns and stated that outstanding evidentiary matters, including those related to a fourth alleged victim, would be addressed in a hearing scheduled for Friday. He ordered the parties to proceed with the current schedule, though he invited Combs’ team to refile any requests that address government objections.

Combs, arrested in September at a Manhattan hotel by NYPD and federal agents, faces multiple charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and coercion. Prosecutors allege that Combs orchestrated sexual encounters involving drugs, threats, and hired escorts, which were filmed and described as “freak-offs.” The case also references a high-profile civil settlement with his former girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, who alleged abuse and assault. Although the case was settled for $30 million, Ventura has expressed a willingness to testify at trial.

Combs denies all criminal wrongdoing, insisting the relationships were consensual, and has also criticized the government’s conduct, alleging racial bias and unconstitutional search practices during property raids in Los Angeles and Miami. His legal team has questioned the use of certain evidence, including surveillance footage released by CNN, which they claim was edited — a claim CNN denies.

As the trial approaches, Combs’ legal troubles continue to grow, and the upcoming conference on Friday will play a crucial role in determining whether the trial will proceed as scheduled or be delayed.
