The hit Apple TV+ dramedy Shrinking, starring Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, and Jessica Williams, is returning for its second season on Wednesday, October 16. Fans can expect 12 episodes in the upcoming season, which promises to pick up where Season 1 left off, with new storylines and the addition of a guest star to shake things up.

Created by Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel, and Brett Goldstein (best known for his role as Roy Kent in Ted Lasso), Shrinking has been a fan favorite. Who’s Returning in Season 2?

Fans will be happy to see the return of the beloved main cast in Season 2. Jason Segel reprises his role as Jimmy Laird, a grieving widower and unconventional therapist. Harrison Ford returns as Paul, Jimmy’s boss and mentor, while Jessica Williams is back as Gaby, their friend and coworker. Michael Urie also returns as Jimmy’s best friend Brian, Luke Tennie as Jimmy’s patient Sean, Lukita Maxwell as his daughter Alice, Christa Miller as their neighbor Liz, and Ted McGinley as Liz’s husband, Derek.

Recap of Season 1

Season 1 introduced viewers to Jimmy Laird, who is struggling to cope with the loss of his wife. As a therapist, Jimmy finds himself losing patience with traditional methods of empathy and compassion and instead starts meddling in his patients’ personal lives—a decision that leads to humorous and heartfelt consequences. His unorthodox methods draw concern from his boss, Paul (played by Harrison Ford), who has Parkinson’s disease and repeatedly warns Jimmy against crossing boundaries with his clients.

Jimmy’s personal life is also in turmoil. He struggles to reconnect with his teenage daughter Alice, who feels emotionally distant following her mother’s death. Alice, who loves playing soccer, is also dealing with her grief. In a bold move, Jimmy decides to take in one of his patients, Sean, a troubled young man who has been kicked out of his parents’ home for his violent behavior and repeated arrests.

Meanwhile, Jimmy’s coworker Gaby is grappling with her own issues, including a recent divorce. At the end of Season 1, Jimmy and Gaby start sleeping together, adding further complexity to their friendship. In another storyline, Jimmy rekindles his bond with his longtime friend Brian just before Brian’s wedding to his partner, Charlie.

What to Expect in Season 2

With Season 1 ending on a mix of closure and new possibilities, Season 2 is expected to delve deeper into the relationships and unresolved issues left on the table. With the return of its quirky characters and the addition of new faces, Shrinking promises to maintain its signature blend of comedy and heartfelt moments as Jimmy continues to navigate life, loss, and love.
