December 12, 2024: The Kapoor family recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi for a special meeting related to the upcoming Raj Kapoor 100 Film Festival, which will celebrate the centenary of the iconic filmmaker Raj Kapoor. The gathering included notable family members such as Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, and Riddhima Kapoor Sahni. During the interaction, the family shared their experiences with the Prime Minister, and a light-hearted moment occurred between Alia Bhatt and PM Modi.
In the conversation, Alia asked the Prime Minister if he ever gets time to listen to music. She asked, “Kya aap gaane sun paate hain?” (Do you get time to listen to music?). PM Modi, with a warm smile, replied, “Main sun pata hoon kyunki mujhe achha lagta hai. Kabhi mauka mil jata hai toh main zaroor sun leta hoon,” (I do listen because I enjoy it. Whenever I get the chance, I listen). The exchange was endearing and showcased a more personal side of the Prime Minister.
Alia also mentioned a heartwarming incident to PM Modi, recalling a clip she saw of him in Africa, where soldiers were singing her song. She said, “Maine wahan pe bhi ek clip dekha tha kuch jawan ke sath khade the aur vo uss time mera gana gaa rahe the. Kafi logo ne mujhe bheja tha aur sab log bahut khush ho gaye,” (I think you went to Africa recently. I saw a clip where soldiers were standing with you, singing my song. Many people sent me the clip, and everyone was so happy).
The meeting was part of the promotional activities for the Raj Kapoor 100 Film Festival, which aims to honor the legacy of one of Indian cinema’s most beloved figures. The festival will showcase 10 iconic Raj Kapoor films across 40 cities and 135 cinemas, with tickets priced at just Rs 100. The lineup includes some of his most celebrated works such as Aag, Barsaat, Awaara, Shree 420, and Mera Naam Joker, sparking excitement among cinema lovers.
Raj Kapoor, who passed away in 1988, is remembered as “India’s Greatest Showman.” His films are known for their timeless music, captivating storytelling, and social relevance, and his legacy continues to inspire filmmakers and audiences alike.
