Selena Gomez Shuts Down Cosmetic Surgery Rumors: “Leave Me Alone”

Selena Gomez, often under scrutiny for her changing looks and weight fluctuations, recently addressed and shut down rumors about undergoing cosmetic procedures.

The 32-year-old singer responded to these speculations in the comment section of a TikTok video, clarifying the truth about her appearance.

In the now-deleted TikTok video, content creator Marissa Barrionuevo, who works in a plastic surgery office, was asked to speculate on the cosmetic work Gomez might have had done. Barrionuevo declined, attributing Gomez’s changing appearance to her health struggles with lupus, which can significantly alter a person’s looks.

On July 27, Gomez commented on the video, expressing her frustration: “Honestly, I hate this. I was on stripes because of a flare-up. I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone.”

Following Gomez’s comment, Barrionuevo pinned it to the top of a new video and issued an apology, writing, “I adore you. I really do mean the best, so I apologize if this rubbed you the wrong way in any way whatsoever. You don’t owe it to anyone to tell us why you don’t look the same as what you did when you were a teenager or in your 20s.”

Gomez responded with appreciation, saying, “I love you. Not about you. I just get sad sometimes.”

Selena was diagnosed with lupus, an incurable autoimmune disorder, in 2014 and underwent a kidney transplant in 2017 due to complications from the disease. Earlier in 2023, she addressed concerns over her health when she was trolled for shaky hands in a skincare routine video on TikTok, explaining that the shaking was due to her lupus medication.

Despite the ongoing criticism over her looks, Gomez has consistently shared body-positive messages. In January, she wrote on her Instagram Stories, “Today I realized I’ll never look like this again. I’m not perfect but I am proud to be who I am–sometimes I forget it’s ok to be me.”
