A throwback photoshoot captures Shah Rukh Khan in a crisp Indian Army uniform, thrilling fans who are fondly reminded of his iconic debut as Lt. Abhimanyu Rai in Fauji.
November 6, 2025: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who has famously played men in uniform across his career in films like Main Hoon Na, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, and Jawan, is once again thrilling fans with an unseen “fauji” avatar.
Noted photographer Colston Julian shared a series of undated throwback pictures on social media this week, featuring the actor impeccably dressed in an Indian Army uniform, photographed on location at Mehboob Studios.
A Nostalgic Concept Shoot
The uniform worn by the actor includes a key detail that points to a nostalgic concept shoot: the name tag reads “Abhimanyu Rai,” the name of his character from his 1989 debut television show, Fauji.
While the pictures were taken sometime before the pandemic, judging by the actor’s look, they have generated an immense reaction from fans who appreciate his portrayal of a man in service.
Fan Reactions: Fans flooded the comments, with one writing, “The uniform looks so stunning on him,” and another remarking, “He looks so stunning in that uniform.”
The Childhood Dream
The photos tap into a long-held ambition of the actor himself. Years ago, in an interview, Shah Rukh Khan revealed that acting wasn’t his first career choice.
Shah Rukh Khan: “I wanted to be an army officer. However, when I was at the army school, they told me to cut my hair, and I said no.”
His breakout role as Lt. Abhimanyu Rai in Fauji was, in many ways, an on-screen fulfillment of that childhood dream, a journey that has continued across his career right up to his 2023 blockbusters.
Shah Rukh Khan was last seen in the moderate success Dunki (2023). He is now preparing for his next major release, Siddharth Anand’s King in 2026, where he will feature in a new ‘silver fox’ avatar alongside his daughter, Suhana Khan.
