Shariful Fakir Calls FIR 'Fabricated' in Saif Ali Khan Attack Case, Seeks Bail
July 20, 2025: Shariful Fakir, the man accused in Saif Ali Khan Attack Case, has filed a bail plea before the sessions court, claiming that the version of events presented in the First Information Report (FIR) is entirely fabricated.
Represented by Advocate Vipul Dushing, Fakir’s legal team submitted the plea on Friday, arguing that there is no concrete evidence or circumstantial proof linking him to the crime. The prosecution has now been instructed to submit its response, and the sessions court has set Monday as the hearing date.
In a heated altercation, Fakir allegedly struck a woman and demanded ₹1 crore, according to the FIR for the event. When Saif intervened, he was reportedly attacked with a knife. The actor had to undergo emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital and was discharged after five days. Fakir managed to escape during the scuffle but was later apprehended on January 19.
In his bail plea, Fakir questions the integrity of the investigation. “The investigating agency initially arrested another person based on CCTV footage and later conveniently arrested the present applicant using the same footage,” the plea states.
His legal counsel further argued that Fakir’s arrest is illegal, alleging that the police failed to provide him with the grounds of arrest, a requirement under criminal procedure. “It is mandatory to inform the accused of the reasons for arrest before taking them into custody,” said Dushing.
The defense also contended that all key evidence — including CCTV footage and call records — is already in the prosecution’s possession, and Fakir poses no threat of tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses. Therefore, his continued detention, the plea argues, is unwarranted and unjustified.
The upcoming hearing on Monday will determine whether the court finds merit in Fakir’s claims or upholds the prosecution’s position on his custody.
