Shashi Kapoor's Grandson Zahan Kapoor plays a rookie jailer In 'Black Warrant' Teaser

December 19, 2024: After the success of his acclaimed projects Sacred Games and CTRL, director Vikramaditya Motwane is returning to the screen with a gripping new web series, Black Warrant. The prison drama, set in one of India’s most infamous prisons, Tihar Jail, will take viewers inside the harsh realities of jail life, based on true events. Netflix dropped the first teaser for the series on Thursday, raising anticipation for the gritty thriller.

The teaser introduces Zahan Kapoor (grandson of Bollywood legend Shashi Kapoor) in his web series debut. He plays a newly appointed jailer who struggles to adapt to the brutal, unforgiving environment of Tihar Jail. As the teaser unfolds, Zahan's character is shown trying to survive while learning the ropes of prison life, with his colleagues urging him to toughen up. Rahul Bhatt also stars in the series, playing an authoritative cop, adding to the drama's intense atmosphere.

Black Warrant is inspired by the book Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer by Sunil Gupta, a former Tihar Jail superintendent, and journalist-author Sunetra Choudhury. The book delves into the gritty and often disturbing realities of one of India’s most notorious prisons, which has housed some of the country's most dangerous criminals.

Directed by Motwane and Satyanshu Singh, with co-directors Ambiecka Pandit, Arkesh Ajay, and Rohin Raveendran Nair, the series also stars Paramvir Singh Cheema, Anurag Thakur, and Sidhant Gupta in key roles.

The series is a collaboration between Applause Entertainment, Andolan Production, and Confluence Media. Fans can catch Black Warrant when it premieres on Netflix on January 10, 2025.

Meanwhile, Motwane's recent release, the cyber-thriller CTRL, has also garnered praise. The film, starring Ananya Panday and Vihaan Samat, was released on Netflix on October 4, 2024. This film marked Ananya Panday’s second OTT release this year, following her debut in the series Call Me Bae in September.

With Black Warrant set to drop in January 2025, Motwane continues to solidify his position as one of India’s top storytellers in the digital space, with his distinct style of complex, high-stakes narratives.
