Shatrughan Sinha Reflects on Love Triangle with Wife Poonam and Co-Star Reena Roy: “The Man Suffers Too”
December 12, 2024: Shatrughan Sinha Reflects on Past Love Triangle: “The Man Suffers Too”
Veteran Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinha candidly opened up about his turbulent love life, confessing that he had two simultaneous relationships—one with his wife, Poonam Sinha, and the other with his co-star Reena Roy. In a heartfelt interview with Lehren Retro, the iconic actor admitted to making “mistakes” and reflected on the emotional toll of being caught in a love triangle.

When asked about that phase in his life, Sinha, without explicitly naming anyone, expressed his gratitude toward the women involved. “I am grateful to all the women who were part of my life. I don’t have any grudges against anybody. They’ve all helped me grow and become a better person,” said the actor, who shares a close bond with his wife and mother of his children, including actress Sonakshi Sinha.

Busting the stereotype that only women suffer in complicated relationships, Sinha revealed that men also endure immense emotional turmoil. “When a man is good at heart and has two committed relationships simultaneously, he too suffers a lot, both mentally and physically. You feel guilty. When you are with your lover, you feel guilty about your wife, and when you are with your wife, you feel bad for your lover. It’s like, usko khilona banake kyu rakha hai (Why am I treating her like a toy)?”
Sinha went on to describe how his youth and lack of guidance played a role in his mistakes. “It was natural for a boy from Patna, who had just entered the world of glitz and glamour, to lose his way. I didn’t know how to handle stardom. People get lost in it. But when Poonam came into my life, she helped me a lot,” he said.
The veteran actor also spoke warmly of Reena Roy, who was his co-star in several films like Kalicharan (1976), Milap, and Sangram. “I don’t want to name anyone, but I’m grateful to her. I’ve received a lot of love from her and learned so much. I have no complaints,” he added.
Sinha’s relationship with Roy reportedly ended when he married Poonam Sinha. In a previous interview, Sinha addressed the difficult decision, saying, “Sometimes in life, one reaches a juncture where making a decision becomes very difficult. But once the decision is made, it may not always be in everyone’s favor.”
Reflecting on his past, Sinha emphasized that the challenges of love triangles aren’t limited to women. “It’s not just the girls involved in the love triangle who suffer; the man equally struggles to get out of the situation, even when he wants to.”
Despite the hardships, Sinha remains grateful for the lessons learned and the people who shaped his journey. His candid revelations serve as a testament to the complexities of relationships and the growth that comes from acknowledging past mistakes.
