Sherman Augustus Joins Cast Of DC’s Lanterns Drama Series

March 22, 2025: Sherman Augustus, best known for his role in Stranger Things, is set to join the cast of HBO’s highly anticipated drama series Lanterns, based on the iconic Green Lantern DC comics, Deadline reports. Augustus will take on a key recurring role, joining a talented ensemble that includes Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, and Kelly MacDonald.

In Lanterns, Augustus will portray John Senior, the father of recruit John Stewart (played by Pierre), and the human embodiment of “stubborn.” The series follows Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic law enforcement officers who are drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery while investigating a murder in the American heartland. Augustus’ character, John Senior, will add emotional depth and complexity to the story, offering insight into Stewart’s background.

The cast of Lanterns also features Poorna Jagannathan, Ulrich Thomsen, Jason Ritter, and J. Alphonse Nicholson, who plays the younger version of John Senior.

A Powerful Behind-the-Scenes Team

Lanterns is an eight-episode series produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. It comes from the minds of Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, with Mundy serving as the showrunner. The trio is also co-writing and executive producing the series. James Hawes will direct the first two episodes and executive produce.

Sherman Augustus has enjoyed a successful career, with notable recurring roles in Stranger Things, where he will be seen in the show’s fifth and final season, set to air later this year. Augustus has also recently starred in the feature film The Banality.

The actor is no stranger to high-profile projects, having previously been a series regular on AMC’s Into the Badlands, and having guest-starred in shows like HBO’s Westworld, USA’s Colony, NBC’s American Odyssey, and AMC’s Low Winter Sun.
