The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan in connection with a money laundering probe into illegal betting apps.

September 4, 2025: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is looking into more illicit internet betting sites. One of the notable people they are looking into is Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan, who promoted the app 1xBet. Reports state that the cricketer has been called in, but his team says they have nothing to do with the betting site.

The ED’s investigation is part of a bigger effort to find out more about money laundering that is happening with illegal betting applications that are said to have collected crores of rupees from clients. Officials said that the main goal is to get back the money that was paid to famous people to promote things.

The probe has already looked into other well-known people. It’s interesting considering the ED just asked former cricketer Suresh Raina the same issue. Sources say they are also looking at more than 100 actors and actresses from both Bollywood and Tollywood. The agency has also interviewed people who work for big tech companies like Google and Meta how they advertise these apps.

The government is pushing down on fake advertising for illegal betting companies at the same time as Dhawan is going to court. The ED’s measures show that they are pushing harder to stop online betting and punish public figures responsible for promoting it, even though Dhawan’s side says he is innocent.
