Shine Tom Chacko Arrested in Kochi for Alleged Drug Use Amid Misconduct Allegations by Actress Vincy Aloshious
April 19, 2025: Malayalam actor Shine Tom Chacko was arrested on Saturday in connection with an alleged drug use case and later taken for a medical examination by Kochi City North Police. This development comes amid rising controversy surrounding the actor, who recently faced serious allegations of misconduct by fellow Malayalam actress Vincy Aloshious.
According to a statement released by Kerala Police, Shine appeared at Ernakulam North Police Station at 10 am — half an hour earlier than scheduled — following a notice issued to him. The notice was related to a hotel room incident where Shine attempted to flee during a police raid.
The controversy took a more serious turn after actress Vincy Aloshious filed a formal complaint against Shine with the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce and the industry’s internal complaints committee. She accused Shine of unprofessional behavior and substance abuse during the shoot of their film Suthravakyam.
In a candid Instagram video, Vincy revealed that the actor misbehaved with her and another colleague, allegedly while under the influence of drugs. She recalled one incident where he inappropriately offered to assist her with a wardrobe malfunction in front of the film crew. In another, she said he was visibly consuming a white powder during a rehearsal.
“These experiences were disturbing, but I continued shooting because he played the lead in the film,” Vincy stated, adding that the production team was aware of the issue but allowed the shoot to go on.
The matter has drawn sharp political criticism as well. BJP leader Nivedita Subramanian slammed the Kerala government for its “silence” on rising cases of abuse in the film industry. “There have been many issues, such as the casting couch, but the ruling party remains silent and blind to the atrocities happening to women,” Subramanian told ANI.
The situation has sparked a broader conversation about drug use and workplace harassment in the Malayalam film industry. The Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce is now reviewing the complaint, and the outcome may set a precedent for how such allegations are handled going forward.
As of now, Shine Tom Chacko remains under scrutiny, and investigations are ongoing.
