A technician found the sock in Jackson’s dressing area after the event in Nîmes. The technician kept the item for decades, saying it was a “exceptional” and “cult object” among devotees. The high amount paid at the auction shows how dedicated Jackson’s fans are. They still grieve him more than ten years after he died.

Jackson died on June 25, 2009, from a heart attack that was brought on by his personal doctor, Conrad Murray, giving him too much propofol and benzodiazepine. The 50-year-old performer was getting ready for a series of comeback concerts in London when he died.
