‘Shogun’ Dominates TV Categories At 30th Critics Choice Awards, Sweeps Major Honors

February 8, 2025: At the 30th Critics Choice Awards, Shogun emerged as a dominant force in the TV categories, taking home multiple prestigious awards, including Best Television Series-Drama. The show, which captivated audiences with its compelling storytelling and stellar performances, clinched multiple accolades on February 7, 2025, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California.

In addition to the Best Drama Series win, Shogun also earned recognition for its talented cast. Tadanobu Asano took home the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, while Moeka Hoshi secured the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series award for their performances in the show. Hiroyuki Sanada, who played the lead role in Shogun, triumphed over stiff competition to win the coveted Best Actor in a Drama Series award. He bested a remarkable lineup of nominees, including Jeff Bridges, Ncuti Gatwa, Eddie Redmayne, Rufus Sewell, and Antony Starr.

The success of Shogun at the Critics Choice Awards further solidifies the show’s position as a major contender in the television awards season. The series had already made waves at the Golden Globes, where it won several significant honors, including Best Television Series-Drama.

The Critics Choice Awards also saw Anna Sawai shine as she took home the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama for her portrayal of Toda Mariko. Tadanobu Asano, in his emotional acceptance speech, expressed his gratitude, saying, “This is a very big present for me,” and added, “I’m very happy,” as he accepted his award for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.

In the fiercely competitive Best Drama Series category, Shogun triumphed over other noteworthy titles such as Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, The Day of the Jackal, The Diplomat, Evil, Industry, The Old Man, and Slow Horses. The win underscores Shogun’s cultural impact and the audience’s admiration for its rich storytelling and powerful performances.

The Critics Choice Awards 2025 proved to be a monumental night for Shogun, solidifying its place as one of the most talked-about and celebrated shows in recent television history.
