‘Shogun’ Makes History With Its Dominance At 2025 Golden Globe Awards

January 6, 2025: The 2025 Golden Globe Awards witnessed a historic sweep by the epic historical drama “Shogun”, solidifying its dominance in the drama categories. The series, which had already achieved monumental success with 18 Emmys, continued to impress on the Hollywood stage by clinching the Best Television Series – Drama award, alongside several other major honours.

One of the most celebrated performances of the night was that of Anna Sawai, who was recognized with the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama for her powerful portrayal of Toda Mariko in Shogun. Sawai’s victory highlighted her immense talent and marked her as a rising star in the industry.

The success of Shogun continued with Tadanobu Asano, who triumphed in the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role category. Asano’s emotional acceptance speech moved many in the audience, as he humbly expressed, “This is a very big present for me,” adding, “I’m very happy.”

Another standout from the series, Hiroyuki Sanada, won Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Series – Drama for his portrayal of Takahashi. Sanada’s acceptance speech was both heartfelt and inspiring. He urged aspiring actors to “never give up” and thanked those who had supported him along the way, acknowledging that “all of you have brought me here.”

The evening’s success was capped off with Shogun winning the highly coveted Best Television Series – Drama award, cementing its place as a force in modern television. This win came at the expense of some strong competition, including series like The Day of the Jackal (Peacock), The Diplomat (Netflix), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (Prime Video), Slow Horses (Apple TV+), and Squid Game (Netflix).

The ceremony itself was a star-studded affair, with A-listers such as Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett, and Glen Powell gracing the red carpet. Broadcast live from The Beverly Hilton, the awards show marked the official launch of the 2025 awards season, making it an unforgettable night for both the industry and fans alike.

The 82nd Golden Globe Awards were streamed on CBS and Paramount+ in the US, with a special broadcast available for Indian audiences through Lionsgate Play, ensuring that global fans were able to enjoy the prestigious ceremony.
