Sidharth Malhotra & Janhvi Kapoor’s Param Sundari Opens Strong at Box Office, Earns ₹7.37 Cr on Day 1
Mumbai, August 30: Bollywood’s fresh pairing of Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor has struck gold with their much-awaited film Param Sundari, which hit theatres this Friday. Defying modest pre-release expectations, the romantic drama managed to pull audiences to cinemas, collecting an impressive ₹7.37 crore on Day 1.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed the figures on his X handle, stating that the film’s opening day numbers surpassed Shahid Kapoor’s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, a film of a similar genre. Importantly, Param Sundari achieved this without any ticket discounting schemes or “Buy-One-Get-One” offers, making the opening even more commendable.
Adarsh noted that last-minute spot bookings and the absence of major competition at the box office boosted the film’s performance. He also highlighted that the film’s chartbuster soundtrack, especially the song Pardesiya, played a big role in drawing younger audiences to theatres. With strong word-of-mouth, Param Sundari is now expected to see healthy growth on Saturday and Sunday, setting the stage for a solid opening weekend.
Directed by Tushar Jalota, the film marks the first on-screen collaboration between Sidharth and Janhvi. The narrative explores a cross-cultural love story as Sidharth, a fun-loving Punjabi boy from Delhi, falls for Janhvi, a rooted and graceful girl from Kerala—leading to a whirlwind of romance, laughter, and chaos.
Speaking about his role, Sidharth Malhotra said:
“With Param Sundari, I feel like I’m revisiting the kind of romance I grew up loving, but in a way that feels fresh and relatable. Param has that Delhi boy charm, and Kerala’s magic truly enhanced the love story. We wanted it to look as beautiful as it feels, and I hope the audience feels the same warmth we felt while making it.”
Janhvi Kapoor, who plays the titular Sundari, expressed her deep connection to the character:
“Sundari is very personal to me. Her grace, quiet strength, and love for her roots resonate with my own South Indian heritage. Shooting in Kerala, surrounded by such beauty, I felt an emotional connection to her world that I hope audiences will also feel.”
After Param Sundari, Janhvi Kapoor will be seen next in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari alongside Varun Dhawan, while Sidharth Malhotra continues to explore a mix of romance and action films in his upcoming slate.
