June 28, 2025: Aamir Khan’s heartfelt sports drama Sitaare Zameen Par continues to shine at the box office as it enters its second week. With strong word-of-mouth and consistent audience turnout, the film is on the verge of joining the coveted ₹100 crore club.
According to data from Sacnilk, the movie has collected ₹94.95 crore within its first week. On Day 8 (Friday), it added another ₹6.05 crore, according to early estimates. This performance puts it ahead of Akshay Kumar’s Kesari 2, which had a lifetime India collection of ₹92.53 crore.
Released exclusively in theatres with no OTT tie-up, Sitaare Zameen Par has steadily gained traction. The film’s emotional storyline, which brings back memories of Khan’s 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par, appears to have struck a chord with audiences.
While Taare Zameen Par focused on the journey of a dyslexic child, Sitaare Zameen Par takes a fresh route. This spiritual successor explores the story of Gulshan (played by Aamir Khan), a disgraced basketball coach assigned to train a group of neurodivergent children as part of a court-mandated community service. What begins as a reluctant duty turns into a transformative journey for both coach and team.
The film also marks the Bollywood debut of several newcomers, including Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, and Simran Mangeshkar. It features a strong ensemble of seasoned actors such as Dolly Ahluwalia, Brijendra Kala, Gurpal Singh, and Ankita Sehgal. Genelia Deshmukh plays Sunita, Gulshan’s supportive and grounded wife.
Produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, the film is lauded for its sensitive portrayal of neurodivergent children, its uplifting sports angle, and Khan’s nuanced performance. However, critics have pointed out the film’s long runtime (2 hours and 39 minutes) as a pacing issue that slightly dampens the overall experience.
Despite minor criticisms, Sitaare Zameen Par is holding firm at the box office and is expected to cross the ₹100 crore mark by the end of its second weekend — cementing its place as one of the top Hindi releases of the year.
