May 31, 2025: Smriti Irani, the iconic face behind Tulsi Virani in the legendary Indian television drama Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, is reportedly back on set as filming begins for the much-anticipated second season. After years away from acting and a successful stint in Indian politics, Irani is making a dramatic return — and under heightened security measures.

According to India Forums, the former Union Minister has commenced shooting for the show’s revival, and the sets are abuzz with strict protocols. In an effort to prevent leaks, mobile phones are being taped, and most crew members are prohibited from using their devices during filming. Only a few, including Smriti Irani, Amar Upadhyay, and producer Ekta Kapoor, are reportedly exempt.
What’s more, Irani is filming with Z+ security, the highest level of personal protection provided in India. Armed security personnel and extensive on-ground checks have been deployed to ensure her safety throughout the production schedule.
Smriti Irani became a household name in the early 2000s when she first portrayed Tulsi Virani — a role that defined Indian television and left an indelible mark on pop culture. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under Balaji Telefilms, originally aired from 2000 to 2008.
Irani’s transition from television to politics began in 2003 when she joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She went on to serve as Union Minister in various portfolios, including Human Resource Development, Textiles, Information & Broadcasting, Women and Child Development, and Minority Affairs — playing a significant role in the Indian political landscape until 2024.
The return of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi has generated immense excitement among fans, though an official announcement is still awaited. If the buzz is anything to go by, Tulsi’s comeback may very well reignite television nostalgia across the country.
