Despite a global legacy and star power from Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, Disney’s Snow White struggles in India with a total collection of ₹4.16 crore, overshadowed by Bollywood hits and controversy.

Walt Disney’s Snow White, a live-action reimagining of its 1937 animated classic, continues to face a harsh reception at the Indian box office. On Day 5, the film earned just ₹44 lakh—a 20% dip from Monday—bringing its total collection to ₹4.16 crore across all languages, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
Despite its massive global budget of over $250 million (₹2,149 crore), the film’s performance in India has been disappointing, especially in the face of competing Bollywood blockbusters like Chhaava (₹586.35 crore in 40 days) and The Diplomat (₹27.40 crore in 12 days).
Mixed Reception and Mounting Controversies
Much of the backlash stems from the film’s numerous controversies. Critics questioned the casting of Rachel Zegler, an American actress of Colombian descent, in the titular role. Zegler’s political commentary, including remarks on former US President Donald Trump and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, added fuel to the fire.

The decision to reimagine the seven dwarfs as animated magical creatures also drew ire. Actor Peter Dinklage previously criticized the project for being “backward,” leading Disney to drop the “Seven Dwarfs” from the title entirely.
In the remake, Snow White is no longer a damsel in search of true love but a fierce rebel leader challenging the evil queen, played by Gal Gadot. This feminist retelling, however, failed to resonate with many traditional viewers.
Falling Behind at the Box Office
While international buzz remains high, Snow White‘s Indian collections are being dwarfed—ironically—by local films with stronger cultural appeal and box office pull. The fifth-day slump signals a tough road ahead unless positive word of mouth can reverse its trajectory.
