Sonu Sood’s ‘Fateh’ Struggles at Box Office: Earns ₹6 Crore in Opening Weekend

“Despite a promising premise and action-packed sequences, Sonu Sood’s directorial debut sees modest earnings, hindered by limited star power and mixed reviews.”

January 13, 2024: Sonu Sood’s directorial debut, Fateh, opened to a lukewarm response at the box office, earning ₹6 crore net in India over its first weekend. Despite heavy promotions and discounted ticket prices of ₹99 on opening day, the action-thriller failed to generate significant momentum among audiences.

Box Office Performance
The film, which also stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Naseeruddin Shah, Vijay Raaz, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya, earned ₹2 crore each on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Ideally, the movie was expected to double its opening-day earnings over the weekend, but it fell short, reflecting the lack of strong word-of-mouth and major star appeal.

Reasons for the Slow Start
Critics and analysts have pointed out that Fateh‘s underwhelming performance can be attributed to its inability to deliver a compelling narrative. While the action sequences and cybercrime theme received praise, the film’s overall content failed to resonate with the audience.

Plot Overview
Fateh follows the journey of Fateh Singh (played by Sonu Sood), a former Indian spy living a tranquil life in Moga, Punjab, as a dairy farm supervisor. His peaceful existence takes a dramatic turn when Nimrat (Shivjyoti Rajput), a young woman he considers a sister, unknowingly promotes a predatory loan app and travels to Delhi to confront the developers. When Nimrat goes missing, Fateh embarks on a dangerous mission to find her, unearthing a large-scale cybercrime racket. Assisted by Khushi Sharma (Jacqueline Fernandez), an ethical hacker, Fateh dives deep into the digital underworld to take down the perpetrators.

Future Prospects
With its current trajectory, Fateh is unlikely to see a significant boost in box office collections. However, the film could find a second life on OTT platforms, where niche themes like cybercrime often gain traction.
