Sony Pictures Shifts ‘Insidious 6’ Release To 2026, Replaces Slot With Austin Butler’s ‘Caught Stealing’

January 30, 2025: Sony Pictures has announced a shift in its release schedule, pushing the highly anticipated Insidious 6 to 2026 and replacing its original slot with the 2025 release of Caught Stealing, starring Austin Butler. The announcement was made on Wednesday, as reported by Deadline.

The upcoming Insidious 6 is the latest installment of the popular horror franchise, following Insidious: The Red Door, which hit theaters in 2023 and earned $198 million worldwide. The sixth film in the series will now arrive on August 21, 2026, replacing the originally scheduled release date of August 29 this year.

Insidious: The Red Door marked the return of the original cast, including Ty Simpkins, Rose Byrne, Andrew Astor, Sinclair Daniel, and Hiam Abbass. Produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli, James Wan, and Leigh Whannell, the film’s screenplay was written by Scott Teems, based on a story by Leigh Whannell and Scott Teems.

In the meantime, Caught Stealing, an adaptation of Charlie Huston’s book series, will now occupy the 2025 slot. The movie follows Hank Thompson (Austin Butler), a former baseball player who finds himself drawn into the criminal underworld of 1990s New York City, where survival becomes a fight for his life. The star-studded cast includes Zoe Kravitz, Regina King, Liev Schreiber, Matt King, and Bad Bunny.

In addition to Caught Stealing, Austin Butler has several upcoming projects in the pipeline, including Ari Aster’s Eddington, which will also feature Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, and Emma Stone. Butler, who recently starred in the Oscar-nominated Elvis, faces competition for the Best Actor award from Brendan Fraser in The Whale, which was directed by Darren Aronofsky and won two Oscars, including Best Actor for Fraser.
