Sourav Ganguly Reveals Rajkummar Rao Will Play Him In His Biopic

February 21, 2025: Sourav Ganguly, former Indian cricket team captain, has confirmed that Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao will portray him in the much-awaited biopic based on his life. The cricket legend revealed the news while speaking to the media, sharing that while Rao is set to play the titular role, there are some scheduling conflicts that may cause a delay in the film’s release. Ganguly stated that it might take over a year for the movie to hit the screens, due to these issues with dates.

Ganguly, who is widely regarded as one of India’s greatest captains, had an illustrious cricket career spanning 113 Tests and 311 ODIs. The left-handed batsman scored a total of 18,575 runs in international cricket, leading India to several historic victories, including 21 Test wins and a memorable run to the final of the 2003 World Cup. After his playing career ended in 2008, Ganguly transitioned into administration, becoming the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and later the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2020.

While Ganguly’s biopic has generated considerable excitement, it is also anticipated that Rajkummar Rao will bring his trademark intensity and versatility to the role, adding to the film’s appeal. However, fans will have to wait a bit longer as the film’s release is expected to take more than a year due to the actor’s other commitments.

On the work front, Rajkummar Rao continues to captivate audiences with his remarkable range, with his upcoming projects including the film Bhool Chuk Maaf, where he stars alongside Wamiqa Gabbi. The film follows a quirky time loop, with Rajkummar’s character stuck reliving the same day. The teaser of the film, which features the hit song ‘Chor Bazaari’ from Love Aaj Kal, has already generated buzz. Directed by Karan Sharma and presented by Maddock Films in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, Bhool Chuk Maaf promises to be a fun and engaging ride.

In addition to Bhool Chuk Maaf, Rajkummar Rao also has Maalik in the pipeline, which is set for a theatrical release on June 20, 2025. The film is produced by Kumar Taurani under Tips Films and Jay Shewakramani’s Northern Lights Films.
