Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is in talks to helm Spider-Man 4. This film will mark Cretton’s entry into the Spider-Man franchise, making him the fourth director to tackle a Spider-Man solo film, after Sam Raimi, Marc Webb, and Jon Watts.
The project is a co-production between Sony and Marvel Studios, with Tom Holland expected to reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. The script is being written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who worked on previous Spider-Man films, while Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are set to produce.
Plot details remain under wraps, but the film will likely follow up on the aftermath of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which left Peter Parker in a situation where the world has forgotten his identity as Spider-Man. In June 2023, Holland confirmed that initial discussions about a fourth film were underway, emphasizing the importance of finding a compelling reason to continue the story.
Cretton’s potential involvement with Spider-Man 4 follows his exit from the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, due to scheduling and production changes.
